#SocEnt Twitter Chat this Tuesday, Feb 19 at 7pm

socent_chat_2_19Hey DoGooders! Hope you all had a really lovely Valentine’s day and used it to shower some extra special affection on your near and dear – and that includes yourself!

We’d like to invite you to take part in our #SocEnt chat on twitter that will take place this coming Tuesday at 7pm NYC time (EST, that is). We’ll be chatting with Zack Rosenberg of DoGoodBuy.Us and our topic will be how traditional startups can incorporate a social mission into their model and make the jump from Entrepreneur to Social Entrepreneur.

Zack knows a thing or two about both forprofit and nonprofit models. He has always dedicated himself to giving back, serving on the boards of non-profits and also working tirelessly to help colleagues find work. Zack is the Founder and CEO of DoGoodBuyUs, the marketplace for social good/s. One of the first online resources of its kind, DoGoodBuyUs offers a unique fundraising platform for non-profit groups and charity partners. On this site, consumers shop for beautiful items while giving generously at the same time.

Paul Polizzotto of CBS Eco Media to Speak at DoGoodCon

Paul Polizzotto to Speak at DoGoodConWhen I bought my first surfboard in San Francisco and started paddling out, I learned that watermen have a real respect for the ocean, the environment, and are extremely conscious of our relationship with the physical world around us and leaving as light a footprint as possible. So it’s no surprise to me that Paul Polizzotto of CBS Eco Media is a life-long surfer. Paul melded his passion for the ocean with his talent for entrepreneurship and pioneered Urban Watershed Cleaning and Zero Discharge, technologies which prevent run-off from entering storm drain systems and polluting the waters into which they feed.

In January 2011 Paul launched the EcoAd program. This innovative advertising paradigm funnels a portion of the budgets from corporate advertising campaigns into grants for environmental projects in communities across the US. The EcoAd Program is the cornerstone of Paul’s current venture, CBS EcoMedia Inc., with a mission to raise public awareness about environmental issues, to help fund solutions, and to create healthy communities across the nation. We’re super excited to have Paul at DoGoodCon to tell his story!

Only one more day until we launch our full site and our Kickstarter campaign kicks off! Things are really humming here at Harlem HQ! We’re asking you to spread the word to your friends who are interested in changing the world so tweet it out and share the news on FaceBook. And everytime you do, we’ll be sending you some very special DoGoodCon juju that will put a little extra spring in your step. You’ll see! And we hope to see YOU at DoGoodCon!

Andy Didorosi of the Detroit Bus Co. Keynoting at DoGoodCon

andy_didorosiLaunching a business with an integrated social mission just comes naturally for some people. In fact, they couldn’t conceive of doing business any other way. And sometimes that social mission is right on the doorstep. I’m particularly excited to announce that Andy Didorosi of the Detroit Bus Company will be speaking at DoGoodCon. I’m a born and raised Detroit girl with a lot of affection for the Motor City. And as we all know, Detroit has had its ups and downs. My memory of the city while growing up is that of a burned out hull of a place – a sorry memory, indeed.

But the good news is that there is a swelling wave of social entrepreneurship taking hold in Detroit, and at the head of the action is Andy Didorosi. Literally from nothing, Andy has launched several businesses that are enriching life for Motown denizens. When he found out that the Detroit light rail plan had been scrapped, he decided to show the city that there was a demand for those in the suburbs to travel into the city. He bought a couple of buses and the Detroit Bus Company was born. I’m a huge fan of Andy’s because he is truly disruptive – when he is confronted with the words “no” and “can’t” he comes up with brilliant alternatives to make his ideas happen. He, and others like him, are rebuilding Detroit, lot by lot, house by house, brick by brick. He’s truly an inspiration and we’re psyched to have him at DoGoodCon!

Only two more days until our early bird tickets go on sale via Kickstarter! You’ll be saving $200 off the regular price – it’s our Valentine gift to you! They’ll go fast so check back on February 14th and don’t miss out. And please spread the word by sharing – tweet it out and post to FaceBook – it’s good for the soul, DoGooders!

Kaitlin Hasseler of Prosperity Candle is Speaking at DoGoodCon!

kaitlin_hasselerI’m absolutely thrilled to announce that Kaitlin Hasseler of Prosperity Candle will be telling their story at DoGoodCon. I’ve been following Prosperity Candle for quite a while now and not only do they create a wonderful range of decorative candles for your home, but they provide sustainable employment for women who are survivors of places of conflict and natural disaster. Each candle sold helps a woman rebuild her life. They operate by the proven principle that when you invest in a woman, change happens because when a woman thrives, an entire community thrives.

Prosperity Candle gives these women an opportunity to enjoy a reliable income by creating sustainable livelihoods in places like Baghdad and Haiti, in addition to employing refugees within the US. There’s so much to love about what they do and the way they do it. One of my favorite things that they do is allow you to send a message of encouragement to the woman who made your candle. It is an extra special way to connect you directly to the women whose lives are being changed through their amazing enterprise!

Remember, early bird tickets go on sale February 14th! What a great way to share the love. To get all the updates, be sure to sign up for them, y’all! You can do that here. We’re big fans of twitter love and you can follow us on twitter, too! Also, because we want DoGoodCon to be of great value to all of our attendees, we’d love to hear your input of what would be of value to YOU at the event.
